Abstract

The current research study addresses the dyeing of linen fabric using binary mixture of Mangifera indica and Azadirachta indica leaves in combination with biomordants Terminalia chebula, Terminalia belerica and peel of Citrus cinensis. The effects of combination of all the three types of biomordants on the colour strength of dyed linen fabric were examined.  Evaluation of colour strength (K/S), colour data (L*, a*, b*) and colour fastness properties of dyed linen fabric against washing, light, dry and wet rubbing were evaluated. Washing, rubbing, light and perspiration fastness of the dyed samples were of excellent fastness grades.

Keywords: Natural dyes, mordants, colour strength, colour fastness
