Conservation of Some Wild Edible Plants Used by the Tribes of Bhiwapur Tahsil of Nagpur District, Maharashtra, India
Abstract
Plants are the integral part of Indian custom and social life. The disappearance of several plant species is affecting the quality of the day-to-day life of man in different ways. Hence, conservation of biodiversity and its sustainable utilization is of global importance for the development of the nation. The present study aimed to investigate the wild edible plants used by the tribes of Bhiwapur tehsil, belonging to different families, from different villages of the study area in relation to the plant parts used, ethnobotany, phytochemical analysis using standard methods and their conservation. All the wild plants collected from the study area were found to be the good source of nutrition and medicinal properties. The variation in amount of the mineral content may be due to difference in edaphic and climatic conditions.
