Antimicrobial Activities of Silver Doped Nanoparticles
Abstract
Nanobiotechnology, an emerging field of nanoscience, has a wide range of biomedical applications. Nanoparticles (NPs) range between 1–100 nm in size and have a highly specific surface area. These NPs are highly selective and are surrounded by an interfacial layer. In this experiment, we have used five such NPs: ZnO NPs, Ag doped ZnO NPs, ZrO NPs, Ag doped ZrO NPs, and SeO2 with ZnO NPs. The synthesis of nanomaterials followed coprecipitation method followed by heating at 500 °C in muffle furnace. The test organisms used were Pseudomonas sp., Bacillus sp., Candida, Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella sp. The antimicrobial activity was tested by disc diffusion method by using Muller Hinton Agar (MHA). Results obtained showed that Bacillus, Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, Candida and S.aureus were sensitive to ZnO doped NPs, Ag doped ZrO and Ag doped ZnO NPs.
