Abstract

Annual basis, over 1.34 billion people, including 0.51 billion children under the age of six, die as a result of consumption of contaminated food. According to both the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO), one in every eight people worldwide does not have access to safe, clean, clear potable drinking water, and the majority of people are forced to drink contaminated water containing potentially life-threatening bacteria and viruses. Every day, individuals in poor developing nations like India acquire up to 5 gallon (approx. 19–20 litre) of safe, clean water. When water filters downhill through a landfill, it picks up dissolved elements from the decaying rubbish. Leachate is created when landfill material degrades and rain rinses the resultant products away. The black liquid contains organic and inorganic chemicals, heavy metals as well as pathogens; it can pollute the groundwater and therefore represents a health. The content of leachate is divided into four categories: (I) dissolved organic matter, (II) inorganic macro components, (III) heavy metals, and (IV) xenobiotic organic chemicals. This document is an attempt to investigate, evaluate, and review previously published research works by various investigators so far with various treatment methods suitable in rural areas such as physical and chemical parameters.
