Possible Ionospheric Precursors to Magnitude 6.2 Earthquake near Iquique, Chile on 1st November, 2018

Abstract

On November 1st, 2018 a strong magnitude 6.2 earthquakes hit areas near Iquique of Chile. According to USGS, the earthquake was deep with epicenter at 102 km from surface. This paper demonstrates possible anomalous changes in the ionospheric parameters like VTEC, foF2, hmF2 in the ionosphere around areas hit by the earthquake a few days prior to the earthquake. These anomalous changes may be treated as ionospheric precursors for strong and shallow earthquakes.
