Toxicological Impacts of Heavy Metals on Fish

Anirban Raha Roy, Chandan Sarkar

Abstract

In recent times, heavy metals are frequently found in water as pollutants. Heavy metal toxicity has the potentiality to harm aquatic flora and fauna. Fish growth parameters, morphological characteristics as well as haematological, biochemical and physicochemical parameters may be important bio- indicator against this type of pollutants. The purpose of this review is to describe various heavy metals' toxic effects on fish. Heavy metals and its derivative compounds are common aquatic pollutants. Because most of the heavy metals are absorbed by fish and passed up the food chain to other fish eating species, it has an impact on not only aquatic ecosystems but also human via bioaccumulation. As a result, one of the goals of fish research is to learn about the toxicological effects of heavy metals on fish.
