Abstract

The present study was undertaken to screen the common respiratory pathogens like avian mycoplasmas (Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma synoviae) causing respiratory infections in poultry, identification, molecular detection and differentiation of these pathogens from suspected birds and an attempt to develop suitable diagnostic tools for screening of common avian mycoplasmas (MG and MS). A total of 228 pooled cloacal swabs, 228 pooled nasal swabs, 228 pooled tracheal swabs from ailing birds and 152 pooled tracheal tissues, 152 pooled lungs and 76 pooled oviduct samples from dead birds were collected from the suspected 19 poultry farms in Andhra Pradesh. The differentiation of MG and MS was done by targeting the 16s rRNA gene for MG and vlhA gene for MS by PCR and Duplex PCR and recorded that 10 farms were positive for MG, 7 were MS and 5 were for MG and MS.
