Observations on Agroproduction in the Chota Province, Northern Peruvian Andes: A Narrative Approach

E. F. Vásquez

Abstract

Agro- and peccary production is a Homo sapiens activity which spans millennia now, it provides the species with the nutrient requirements necessary to sustain a growing society, also, it is a considerable source of income for agroproducers around the world. Observations on agroproduction for the Northern Peruvian Andes, in the Chota Province, are narrated for the reader: growing techniques and throughput, local genetic resources, seed production, food security and Perspectives for the Region. Agroproduction in the Chota Province, probably Andean Peru, is a flourishing activity, agroproducers have focus on drought, fungi and bacteria resistance as desirable traits for their seeds to select, each agroproducer selects his own seeds and also animal phenotypes, seed production could be reduced to a few growing cycles of the plant under experimental conditions, finally, market, biological, chemical and even nanotechnology interventions to the local probably national food security are suspected and presented and/or reasoned as early evidence to lead investigation. The genetic resources of the agroproducers here in the Chota Province and around the world should be considered a source of domesticates genetics and pursue its conservations. It is advised to direct investment for human capital and infrastructure on agroproduction to be deployed in the Province. Besides, climate change as the distal orbiting due to Earth´s core expansion is finally summarized as the causal of millennia weather changes in the Pleistocene and it is advised research and development in the area for the planet´s safety and Homo sapiens survival given the Holocene.
