Abstract

Several fungal pathogens attacks grain spawn of P. sajor-caju. Successful methods to control the infecting fungal pathogens in mushroom grain spawns are not presently known. Six different botanicals namely neem (Azadirachta indica), garlic (Allium sativum), datura (Datura stramonium), ginger (Zingiber officinalis), turmeric (Curcuma longa) and tulsi (Ocimum sanctum)  were tested at 5 and 10 per cent concentrations to test their efficacy against mushroom and grain spawn infecting pathogens. The percent inhibition produced by botanicals against Trichoderma harzianum, Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus recorded in vitro was found highest in neem 43.33, 55 and 45.5%, respectively and it also showed lowest inhibition 24.81% against P. sajor-caju. The least inhibition of mycelial growth of P. sajor-caju was exhibited by tulsi 18.15%. But it could be seen that tulsi exhibited only 23.33, 19.26 and 19.45% mean inhibition of mycelial growth of pathogens A. niger, T. harzianum and A. flavus, respectively. Eco-friendly management practice, i.e., use of botanicals was studied both in vitro  which gave better results.
