Abstract

Abstract
The present investigation evaluates the in vitro anti-diabetic activity of ethanolic extract of leaves of Peltophorum pterocarpum by α- amylase enzyme inhibitory activity. Besides, this qualitative phytochemical analysis of the plant was carried out. Preliminary phytochemical screening of the extract revealed that the presence of different types of compounds including flavonoids and steroids. The α-amylase inhibitory activity of ethanolic extract showed concentration dependent manner. Hence, α-amylase enzyme inhibition may be the possible mechanism for the plant to exert anti-diabetic activity and also proves one of the potential candidate for the treatment of Type-II diabetes mellitus. The in vitro studies clearly indicate that the ethanolic extract of leaves of P. pterocarpum has significant α-amylase enzymes inhibitory activity.
