Impacts of Climate Change on Fishing in Adjoukrou Country in the Department of Dabou

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the impacts of climate change (CC) on fisheries in the department of Dabou. Our methodology is based on a mixed quantitative and qualitative approach, using direct observations in the field, a questionnaire survey, and individual semi-directive interviews. In Dabou, our interviews, surveys and observations reveal the disappearance of mangroves and the proliferation of water hyacinths, attributable to CC, in terms of biodiversity and the aquatic environment. This affects feeding habits and leads to a decrease in food resources and the reproduction of aquatic species. At the level of fishing yields, there is a progressive decline justified by the scarcity of certain aquaculture species (pike, skipper, millet) and even the disappearance of others (saumon) in the waters. As resilience measures to CC, the majority of fishermen adopt the “acadja” fishing system. Others opt for studies, agriculture and jobs in factories installed in the department.
