Bacteriological Quality Assessment of Street Vended Panipuri and Fruit Juices: A Case Study of Davangere City

Abstract

Health of public especially that of street food lovers is directly regulated by the street food venders and the hygienic environment they maintain in the stalls. It is vital to seek the bacteriological quality of the street vended foods and juices. Here we assess the panipuri (a prominent delicacy of Indian street food) and fruit juice sold in open streets of Davangere, a student dominated, educational hub city of Karnataka, India. A total of 90 samples were collected and analyzed. The results depicted a shocking collection of pathogens in the samples suggesting scope for improvement in the prevailing unhealthy and unhygienic conditions of the street vended food.
