Background: Major dietary pattern changes are leading causes of obesity in the present day.
Aim: The objective of the present study was to evaluate the association between obesity and eating habits and nutritional knowledge among population of Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, India. After establishing the correlation, an attempt was also made to develop a healthy product (snack). Method: Information on eating habits and knowledge concerning nutrition was obtained by utilizing a standardized self-administered questionnaire. It was a survey design. The questionnaire comprised of 16 questions and it was given to 100 consumers. Analysis: Version 20.0 of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Program was utilized in all the statistical analysis undertaken in this study in order to verify associations between obesity and sociodemographic variables, eating habits and nutritional knowledge. Results: Obesity was found to be associated with limited nutrition knowledge and unhealthy eating habits. Conclusion: A correlation was established between dietary pattern and obesity and also a healthy anti-obesity snack was developed and standardized.
